Jamestown High School boys head tennis coach, Bob Artis announced on Friday, June 1st that he has decided to retire. Artis has been a part of the Jamestown boys’ tennis program for 19 seasons. Coach Artis has been an outstanding leader and representative for the boys’ tennis program during his tenure and has consistently produced squads that were competitive both on the court and in the classroom.
Coach Artis is finishing his career with over 200 straight wins in the district and conference record throughout 19 seasons with the Eagles. “I leave the Eagles with the fondest of memories and as difficult as it is to walk away, I am thrilled for what’s ahead,” Artis said. “The hardest part is saying goodbye to the team; I cherish all the relationships I have formed and am so proud of what these young men have accomplished in school and adulthood.” Coach Johnson spoke with Coach Artis about retirement at the last tennis competition held at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center on the College William & Mary campus.
