William Chapman Sets Virginia 5A Indoor Pole Vault Record

Atlee High School senior, William Chapman broke the boys pole vault state record when he soared over the bar set at 16-feet, 6-inches at the VHSL Class 5 State Meet Indoor Track & Field Championships at Boo Williams Sportsplex on Friday, February 23, 2018. He opened at 15-feet-0 and cleared that height and then 15-6, 16-0, and the record 16-6 on his second attempt. William failed on three tries at 16-9. Ebonie Whitted of Grassfield also broke the girls spot put record with 45-07.25. Grassfield HS Track girls team holds several records in indoor and outdoor track for the shot put event. On the completion of the first day, Class 5 Team Rankings (boys) through 5 events scored, Atlee stands in first place with 34 and second place Highland Springs with 21 points. Girls – Class 5 – Team Rankings Bethel with 26 points and Stone Bridge with 17.
