Warhill Football Coach Jerome Rhodes Gets Big Debut Win Over Heritage On Friday, August 29, 2019.
With the 2019 prep football season getting underway across the state this weekend, both teams wanted to avoid penalties, work on discipline and the small things, and make big plays for the first game of the year. The Warhill Lions were able to make the big plays when they needed them against Heritage High School football team during this home opener. Game one, as head football coach is over and it was a good one. Coach Rhodes, the former Woodside Wolverine assistant football coach since 2004, won his debut late Friday night in an out of the district rival at Wanner Stadium in James City County. The Warhill Lions defeated the Heritage Hurricanes 24-13 with a stifling defense and a running game from # 8 Jack Schultz, that made the longtime offense coordinator coach (Todd Price) proud. What happened during the course of Friday’s win was encouraging, too. Warhill’s defense made key adjustments during the second half to slow down Heritage’s rushing attack and keep them scoreless the entire second half. “I thought we played with resilience tonight,” stated Warhill Coach Rhodes during the post-game interview. “We have plenty of room for improvement, but tough play prevailed”. “This was a gut check and character game to build on moving forward”. “More importantly, we’re blessed to escape this game with a win”. Warhill’s next game will be on Friday, September 13th against Tabb High School.
