Virginia is a healthy state located on the East Coast, facing the Atlantic Ocean, with its famous Chesapeake Bay, complete with a handful of rivers. As a result, many individuals are presented with the opportunity to try an abundance of water sports to refresh and cool off during the hot summer months. However, hundreds of surfers from both the East and West Coasts flock to Virginia Beach, Virginia for a week during the month of August to compete in the East Coast Surfing Competition that has taken place every year since its founding in 1961 by the Virginia Beach Jaycees. The Virginia Beach Jaycees are an organizing group whose mission is to encourage positive changes within the community, and as a result, the East Coast Surfing Competition lasts from August 19th, 2018 to August 26th, 2018. Each day is filled with nonstop action, free entertainment, special attractions, and countless adventures. Surfers of all ages from all over the country look forward to attending the competition, meeting new friends, and competing for the top prize. By Amanda Howard
