In June of 2018, Newport News Public School’s Todd Stadium achieved the Field of Excellence award from Pioneer Athletics as recognition for the outstanding maintenance of the track and football stadium. The award nationally recognized, honored, and distinguished the field and its staff workers, who have worked tirelessly to ensure the stadium’s pristine condition. The stadium is the home of many athletic events, ranging from little league sports during the summer, all the way to high school level sports during the fall and winter. As a result, the field and stadium are utilized on a routine basis, however, this not deter the staff from working their hardest to keep the stadium at its best no matter what. The Pioneer Athletics proudly “[salutes] the men and women who work hard to make game day a special day by producing an exceptional field of play” and ultimately encourages an upkeep of the extraordinary work the staff workers produce.
“A Field of Excellence happens when the efforts of a talented crew, a well-maintained surface, and the best in paint, equipment and accessories all come together,” Pioneer Athletics has said. Indeed, Todd Stadium’s field is excellent, and it could not have been accomplished without the help of all of its staff and crew.
