The 27th Annual Kecoughtan Swimming Invitational

10Jan, 2016
On January 9, 2016, the 27th Annual Kecoughtan Swimming Invitational was held at Midtown Aquatic Center. 2016 was the year of broken records. The boy’s 50 yard freestyle’s record was shattered by Menchville High School’s very own Alex Moore. Moore broke the 100 yard freestyle, also. Other records were beat as well: the Girls 200 Yard IM by Danika Katzer of York High, Boys 100 Yard Butterfly by Ted Schubert of Patrick Henry High, and Boys 200 Yard Freestyle by Philip Speri of Bishop Sullivan Catholic High. The meet was fast paced and full of action. Students cheered on the sidelines for all of the competitors as they came around for their respected heats. The center may have been loud, but nothing broke these athletes’ focus. For many of the swimmers, this was their last year competing with their schools. Senior Jonathon Spires from Grafton High said he will be studying and swimming at Princeton University this Fall. – Story by Marli Peters.
