Swim Double Dual Meet: Woodside H.S. vs Menchville H.S. and Phoebus H.S.

Both the girl’s and boy’s swimming teams return to action on Wednesday, December 2, squaring away with a double dual meet Woodside HS vs Menchville HS and Phoebus HS at the Midtown Community Aquatic Center in Newport News. Although the teams are participating in different conference, the coaches will give previews of their teams. The 2015-2016 swim teams from Phoebus, Menchville, and Woodside had a kickoff to their season. Water was splashing through the air, the sound of cheers from the participants roared around the room, the whistles from referees screeched. When asked what goes through their minds while swimming, Landon Potter from Menchville said “Go fast and try to win.” Other winners had the same outlook. The energy all throughout the aquatic center was very enthusiastic. Though the meet seemed much more laid back for the season’s first contest, the competition was still fierce. Phoebus’ coach, Coach Larahaner, says “We have a smaller team than last year with a total of eight swimmers. We are working on improving.” Menchville’s coach, Coach Hogan, says “We graduated a couple of swimmers from last year, and we’ve got a lot of new freshman with a lot of young talent.” Woodside’s coach, Coach Reed, says “We have a lot of new freshman and sophomores. We have six returning seniors that are going to add a lot to the team, but we are hoping to do real well for the year.” When the buzzer sounded, the swimmers were off. “There’s nothing more satisfying than to be part of a team, and swimming is no exception,” Johnson (a Woodside participant in the relays).
