On Wednesday, May 28, 2015, the Spotlight High Team attended the 6A conference 2 Championship for the Girls’ Soccer Tournament. Western Branch was facing off against Grassfield High in a blistering 81 degrees. Luckily, the clouds shielded most of the sunlight, leaving perfect soccer weather for the players, coaches and the audience in the stands. In the end, the Western Branch Bruins won 3-2, defending number one ranking Grassfield High.
It was a very active game from the beginning. Despite the temperatures, the girls played an intense game that was thriving with passion and emotion. The first point was scored by the Grassfield Grizzlies #21, Riley Dowd. The second was scored by Western Branch’s T’era Brown #4.
The second point for Grassfield was a penalty kick that was scored by #4, Whitney Edwards. The final two (and wining) points for Western Branch were earned by jersey #1, Isabel Sierra, and #11, Libby Hinton, with a corner kick.
There was exhaustive play during the entire game from both teams. The audience could feel the adrenaline the players emitted during the game, doubling the passion and igniting the patriotism the fans showed for their team. Due to several injuries and delays, the girls left the field at approximately 7:30pm.
