Menchville Girls’ Soccer Edges Rival.
Freshman Midfielder, Sydney Robertson scored twice as Menchville won 3-1 in the Peninsula District match away vs Warwick High, taking the rival match. “Our girls knew they were going to play for the entire 80 minutes; they were able to find that goal late; and our athletics out played them today,” said Coach Dennis Zollicoffer. Warwick and Menchville have always been rivals. Menchville seemed really prepared and came out and played well this game. This was a good back-and-forth game with both teams with great defensive plays. We knew this young group of athletes were going to be improved this year. Every year both teams played hard-nosed team strategy and they never back down. The Mighty Menchville Monarchs knew what to do. they had defensive strengths and dominated the game. The Monarchs took the early advantage, taking a 1-0 lead point shot by # 18 Sydney Robertson and assisted by teammate # 2 Jaelyn Windham. The # 2 Jaelyn also scored a goal and the assisted by # 17 Ainsley Abbitt in the second half. The Monarchs, looking to spread out the ladys’ Raiders and trying to find passing lanes, dominated time of possession late in the final 5 minutes of gameplay. The team is currently 10-1-1 overall and in the top 3 in the regionals 5A play.
