Hats off to Hickory High School. Hickory baseball are back on the map towards the 5-A state baseball tournament.
The game had all the elements of a classic and did not disappoint the Hickory’s fans. There were tears from fans in the stands, long
embraces, and a moving speech delivered by head coach Hank Kraft to his players following the win. The coaching staff were extremely proud of what this group accomplished. Not only did they excel to get to the final Class 5-A East Regional Championship, they fought to capture the title.
The Hawks (22-1), who wound up out hitting the Monarchs 19-3. The Hawks took advantage when they had runners on base. Hickory Hawks jumped on Menchville Monarchs right out of the gate with three runs off two hits in the bottom of the first inning. Hickory’s run barrage was just beginning as they added one more run in the second and three more in the third and one last run in the bottom of the sixth for a 8-0 victory. Tyler Bowes pitched a shutout; the right-hander struck out four. Tyler allowed no runs and 2 hits in 5 innings. Tyler improved to 5-0 for the season.
