The 2016 Region 6A South Dive Championships was held February 13 at the Bayside Recreation Center in Virginia Beach. A total of 11 female student-athletes and 11 male student-athletes competed in the diving championships. When you get all those kids from different schools and most them train together, they end up pushing each other during competition. They’re all part of the same diving family. Yes, they all have to represent their individual schools, but it’s a diving family and it’s a close-knit family. It’s a very unique situation, but each coach does a great job with the dive athletes. Triniti Gadsden of Bayside H.S. defend his title of last year placing in first with score of 357.29. Triniti stated “I am truly gracious placing first competing against amazing athlete like Jaylon Bost. He is truly talented”. Despite having a fail dive in his second attempt. Jaylon Bost of Kellam H.S. overcame mistakes and pulled it together and scoring 337.95 placing second in the Region 6A South Dive Championships. George Carrow of Woodside H.S. finishing 3rd with the score of 299.70. Sarah Turner of Grassfield H.S. won her second consecutive Dive Championship title with a score of 382.95. She won the girls’s 2015 Region 6A South Dive championship last year. It was a huge performance from all the competitors. The top ten finishers will represent their school in the State Championships held at George Mason University on Friday February 19.
