This documentary will capture some of the impressive performances of Bay Rivers Track &Field. The Bay Rivers District is an athletic district of the (VHSL) Virginia High School League which includes:

Bruton High

Grafton High

Jamestown High

Lafayette High

New Kent High

Poquoson High

Smithfield High

Tabb High

Warhill High

York High

When it comes to dominating the Bay Rivers track and field scene, the Warhill High girls’ team is setting a new standard of excellence. Their perseverance takes precedence in their lives. The athletes’ goals for the upcoming track season reflects upon the leadership and their determination throughout the Bay River regular season district meets. Each athlete’s pursuit of excellence, schools draws inspiration from unwavering passion for running and jumping. The thrill of reaching top speed is what propels athletes forward in competing in the Bay Rivers District. The purpose of this documentary is to learn about the Bay Rivers District’s program consisting of the coaches, athletes, fans, and the development beyond the last track event. The athletes’ story goes beyond mere victories on the field.

The annual Dynamic Baseball Tournament series returns with “The Classic” summer baseball tournament in Hampton Roads. Baseball is still on the rise in Hampton Roads. Playing sports is about igniting a passion, belonging to a team, sportsmanship, teamwork and building self-esteem. 2022 Outdoor track and field season is here and it brings plenty of excitement.

At the All -American Track Classic, top-ranked teams battle in what can be the first outdoor meet for the elite athletes in the sport. The meet is always a great way to get back into the swing of the sport in early Spring. As one of the largest track and field high school meets in Virginia, the All-American Track Classic in Virginia was held at New Kent High School in New Kent, VA on Saturday April 2, 2022. Every track athlete hopes to represent their school and community at this event. Track and field team members also develop healthy skills, learn to push their limits and build strong friendships as they all strive for their personal bests. Around 1200 student-athletes participated in the meet and was excited to compete against high caliber opponents from Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, DC, and New York. The All-American Track Classic Virginia showcase is an excellent vehicle for youngsters to get their names out there for college coaches looking to enhance their team rosters.

The 2022 spring soccer season got underway for Grafton High School on Wednesday as the Clipper hosted Kecoughtan High at Bailey Field Stadium York County, Virginia. Senior Jake Logan #14 finished the night with three goals scored, with another added by Caleb Lewis #9 in the second half. Both Grafton goal keepers put in a stellar performance by posting 12 saves and 8 coming outs to keep the Clipper competitive with a 4-0 win against Kecoughtan High.

Newport News One City Marathon 2022

The 8th edition of the Newport News One City Marathon Weekend took place on March 6, 2022. The Newport News One City Marathon is a point-to-point marathon distance road race that spans the entire length of Newport News, Virginia. The course is full of picturesque views of the Virginia peninsula’s parks and historical neighborhoods. The event attracts over 600 runners and citywide spectators along the route this year making it a widely viewed sporting event in Newport News. The city organizers hope the 2022 race will bring the event back to its former standard, including the restoration of on-course entertainment at each of the five high schools.

Spotlight High caught up with Maurice Pierce, the director of Hampton University’s track & field and cross country program. Coach Pierce has been with HU for over 20 years and have not slowed down on the track yet. He continues to play a significant role in shaping HU’s track and field programs. Coach Pierce has shown an ability to transfer his athletic experiences into true coaching expertise by allowing dedicated student-athletes to realize immediate results while working toward long-term goals. Coach Pierce opens up about his journey at Hampton University.

What makes for an excellent coach? Is it the training or the inner qualities of a man or a combination of the two? Over 40 years as an educator and coach, Coach Raymond Pollard has trained many future teachers, coaches and other professionals. In my opinion, he is a master teacher and coach. Coach Pollard has mentored several coaches on a private basis and he views coaching as a calling, an art and a discipline. He models positive character traits for his family and students. As a runner, Raymond Pollard was one of the outstanding athletes in Hampton Roads. For example, he was named Penn Relays’ Most Outstanding Performers in 1964 while running for Huntington High School. It is no coincidence that I also rely on his wisdom. Over the years, his wisdom about coaching (and life) has inspired thousands of young people. I had the honor of sitting down with one of the greatest high school coaches in a video interview entitled “Characteristics Of An Excellent Coach: Coach Raymond Pollard”

Smithfield H.S. boys soccer tops Jefferson Forest H.S (2-1) in epic VHSL Class 4A championship game. The Smithfield Packers are unbeaten winning the VHSL Class 4A State championship at home – including the program’s first ever perfect 15-0-0 season. They wanted to win a title not only for the team, but their friends, family, and community in the Smithfield area because so many people have supported us,” said Henderson, head boys soccer coach for Smithfield HS. The Dominion H.S. Titans defeated Menchville High School Monarchs 3-0 in the Class 4A VHSL state championship game on Wednesday evening. Titans girls soccer’s lifted the state championship trophy after a feisty, but thrilling encounter on Menchville Monarchs Field. Both teams had impressive season. The team expressed, “We’ve been waiting for this all season; we don’t really know how to explain it. It’s just pure excitement.” The Titans scored three goals in the game and going in the two minutes in the second half to put the game out of reach. The Dominion H.S. Titans end their championship run with a 15-0-0 overall as 2021 soccer state champion. Postgame interview with Coach Michael Reles.

Kelvin Fonville is a graduate at Princess Anne H.S. who is involved in the National Junior Honor Society and a leader on the varsity track and field team. Spotlight High recognizes Kelvin Fonville’s achievements in the classroom and on the track field. On June 17, Kelvin graduated from Princess Anne H.S. in Virginia Beach and in less than 24 hours after graduating, Kelvin competed in the Class 5A VHSL State Championship where he became All-State in the long jump.
