He coached the Cavaliers girls to fourteen VHSL titles championship. Freshman Micah Ojo finished with a game-high 32 points, including 3-of-4 from three-point range, plus 7 rebounds and 2 steals, while Jizelle James added 14 points to lead Princess Anne girls to the 2024 VHSL Class 5A championship at the Richmond Virginia march 3, 2024. When it comes to dominating the Bay Rivers track and field scene, the Warhill High girls’ team is setting a new standard of excellence. Their perseverance  takes precedence in their lives. The athletes’ goals for the upcoming track season reflects upon the leadership and their determination throughout the Bay River regular season district meets. Each athlete’s pursuit of excellence, schools draws inspiration from unwavering passion for running and jumping. The thrill of reaching top speed is what propels athletes forward in competing in the Bay Rivers District. The purpose of this documentary is to learn about the Bay Rivers District’s program consisting of the coaches, athletes, fans, and the development beyond the last track event. The athletes’ story goes beyond mere victories on the field.

The wolverines beat Patrick Henry 54-52 in the Class 5A State Championship game at the VCU Siegel Center in Richmond, Virginia. Woodside Coach Stefan Welsh, as a player, led his team to back-to-back state titles in 2004 and 2005, and now 2023 Coach Welsh did the impossible by leading Woodside High to a VHSL basketball state championship title as a coach. Trevor Smith led the wolverines with 17 points, while Mykel Jenkins added 14, and Christian Greenlaw with the game winning shot. Over the past 27 years, Woodside High School has firmly established itself as one of the premiere basketball programs in the Hampton Roads area. The Woodside Wolverines boys basketball team completed the final part of its mission by accomplishing its goal of becoming a state champion in 2023.

He enjoys being a beacon for young people with tiny, unseen moments that does not show up in the stat sheets. Coach Perrin wants to send his athletes to be mentally, physically, and spiritually healthy .  That is no easy feat in a sport as demanding as track and field. Coach Perrin injects faith, strength, and a desire to strive for excellence into every team that he is a part of here in the Hampton Roads area. During his time at Gloucester High School, he always showed up to every Conn-Madden Relays to help with the hurdlers, the finish line, and whatever else was necessary. He can’t seem to stay away. He understands that teenagers of today have to make tough decisions about what they want to do with their lives. Athletes need counsel outside of their family and Coach Perrin cherishes the relationships that he has built with the young people in the community and continues to be a role model and advisor to each of them to assist in their success as a student-athlete and adult. Coach Perrin stated, “They gotta want to be there.”

This is the opening season for the Dive and Swim Invitational.  Coaches and spectators were so excited about starting the season with new and familiar athletes. The athletes brought some energy that we’ve missed on the pool deck since last year during dive season. Peyton Worman of Hickory High School claimed the first place diving gold medal in the girls competition with 360.65 while Miya Phelps of Grassfield High School finished in a close second with 350.15. On the boy’s side, Gray Miller of First Flight High School topped the boy’s competitors with a score of 450.15.

Ballard Stadium in Norfolk, Virginia. QB Khristian Martin ran for 76 yards and passed for 77 yards with one TD in the endzone pass to Takye Heath. RB Aziz Foster-Powell ran for 129 all-purpose yards and one TD, to lead the Springers to a 33-19 win over the Commodores in the  battle for the Class 5A State Championship title division.

The high schools have talent. Sports in Virginia is year-round. Spring weight room bleeds into summer workouts, which bleeds into two-a-day, then into the actual season, and finally into offseason workouts. These players play against each other often times from little league right into high school teams. For many students, sports play a large part in the high school experience. Sports are still a very popular activity for students around the country. High school sports teams bring together students who may not have otherwise crossed paths. Working together to achieve a common goal helps strengthen bonds and build camaraderie for a life time of friendship.
